What are the Pellets made of?

Wood pellets are small compacted pellets, usually cylindrical/round in shape. They are a product made from sawdust, shavings & clean waste wood. The are compacted, so they are of an especially high density.

How are Pellets made?

Wood Pellet Fuel is made from compressing sawdust & shavings through holes in a metal dye.
The quantity will reduce to approx 15% of its original volume during the process. Friction generated during manufacturing creates heat that releases the natural lignins within the wood which makes a natural glue type product.

Where do you deliver to?

We deliver to a large range of stores throughout New Zealand, Australia & other places.

How are the pellets packaged?

Wood pellets are packaged in plastic bags and stacked on a pallet. The bags are professionally wrapped and stored out of the weather where they stay until dispatched.

How heavy is a bag of Pellets?

Firetime® Wood Pellets are in 20kg Bags.  Onfire® Wood Pellet Fuel comes in 10kg & 15kg Bags

How long will a bag of Pellets last?

One 20kg bag of pellets can last up to 20 hours continuous burning. This is dependent on your  pellet fire heat settings and heating requirements.

How many kilograms of Wood Pellets will I need to heat my home?

Most Customers with an average sized house will go through 1-2 tonne per season. However this amount can alter depending on the winter climate, size of your home, age of your home, and if you compliment with other heating options as well.

Where can I store my bags of Pellets?

Although packed into heat sealed plastic bags there are small holes in the top of each bag to allow trapped air to exhaust during the stacking process. It is therefore important to ensure storage is undercover.

How much ash do Wood Pellets leave?

Wood pellet fuel, especially Onfire® and Firetime® have a very low ash content. Our pellet fuel has an ash content of <0.5%. An ash tray would normally only need to be emptied 1 to 2 times per season.

What should I do with the Ash?

Wood ash is an excellent source of fertiliser. Why not place it on the garden! Use care in placement & ensure ash is cool.

I have recently switched brands and these Pellets seem different?

Different brands use different manufacturing and quality control processes, which can have an effect on the physical appearances of a wood pellet. At Azwood we aim to make the very best quality pellets. If you have recently changed brands and there appears to be a difference in performance with your pellet fire, contact us and our knowledgeable team will help you out. What is biomass fuel?

Wood pellets, wood chips, waste paper, along with dozens of other agricultural by-products capable of being used for energy, are all examples of biomass fuel. The most compelling principle of biomass is that it is renewable. Given proper forest and agricultural management, biomass is virtually limitless, and has proven to be price stable. The environmental benefit of the fuel is that it turns readily available waste products into clean and efficient energy.
